FAIRFORD

The village of Fairford is 8 miles from Cirencester and the main street is lined with 17th and 18th century stone houses.

Fairford is well known for its military base nearby where Concorde had its maiden flight. The Royal International air tattoo is held annually in July.

DOWN AMPNEY

Down Ampney is the birth place of composer Ralph Vaughan Williams and you can see where he grew up. During World War II Down Ampney had a airfield where the Dakota took off.

 

In Down Ampney there is a new village shop which sells a selection of delicious cakes and hot drinks.

Where is Cirencester?

Cirencester is referred to as the capital of the Cotswolds after being the second largest town during the Romans times. Cirencester is home to more than 18,000 people and is surrounded by villages.


In 1086 the Doomsday book was created by William the Conqueror. Within this book the famous Cirencester market was mentioned and it stills runs today.
